"Most people think of
themselves as individuals,
that there's no-one on the planet like them.
This thought motivates them
to get out of bed,
eat food, and walk around
like nothing's wrong.
My name is Oliver Tate."

After a sit down to discuss ideas for our opening Thom and myself decided to include a monologue from the protagonist. This we feel will have many different benefits to our piece. We took inspiration from the film 'Submarine', and studied their opening monologue in great detail. The monologue for 'Submarine' gets you thinking, it immediately gets the audience wrapped up in thought, yet doesn't give away too much content wise for the rest of the play. It also includes an introduction - although brief - of the protagonist.
Revolving around a similar idea we want to have the name of our character revealed at the very beginning and then have some sort of phrase or question to force a pre-determined idea of the character into the audience. By doing this it drags the audience into the piece to find the true meaning behind what the character says.
